Break of Mind

Wednesday, April 1, 2015 was the first day of a 3-day Spring break from teaching my urban sixth grade students.  So...instead of being frustrated that I forgot to turn off my daily phone alarm that blares at 5:30 in the daggone AM, I rolled over and begrudgingly flicked on the TV to CBS to listen to the morning news as my sleepy body adjusted.

"NO!" you say.
"Oh, yes!" I say.

I actually got myself together and drove the 8.90 miles to work on a busy I-95 N, during rush hour traffic no less, to go to a non-paid two day professional development that I had previously signed up for.  "Wow!" you say???  "What a dedicated teacher!" you say?  Sorry to burst your bubble.  Not dedicated.  Just crazy

I should have taken my break just like the other 8,463 Philadelphia School District teachers, who desperately needed and actually took a break.  I should have rested up before our pending 14-day mandatory state testing that begins in about 10 days.

Crazy.  That I always forget to take care of myself.
Crazy.  I could have gone to the movies, window shopped at the mall, graced a new sushi restaurant or just plain ol' watched TV in my comfy bed.
Just crazy...because my mind never took a break.
